A piece of bedsheet, cloth or plastic has for over a century been the most widely-used medium to denounce an injustice and build community. Some have changed the course of history but, unlike other popular forms of graphic expression, the banner is neither archived nor kept: once the urgency of its creation has passed, no trace remains.
