He made his debut with <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Los motivos de Berta<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (1983), premiered at the festivals in San Sebasti\u00e1n and Venice. He continued his career with films closely linked to his love for cinema and its history, including <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Innisfree<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (1990) and <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Tren de sombras<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (1997). In 2001 he directed <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">En construcci\u00f3n<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, a winner at the San Sebasti\u00e1n festival and of a Goya in the documentary film section. This is a key film in thinking about the boundaries between fiction and documentary, and was ahead of its time in portraying the gentrification process in the Barcelona neighbourhood of El Raval. He subsequently directed <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">En la ciudad de Sylvia<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (2007) and <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Guest<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (2010), among others. Alongside this, he has also taught internationally, influencing new generations with his poetic, experimental view.
