Eva Lootz <\/strong>studied philosophy and visual arts in Vienna and graduated in film and television directing there. In the late seventies she moved to Spain, where she has pursued her career as an artist. In 1994 she won the National Visual Arts Prize awarded by the Spanish ministry of culture, in 2009 the Tom\u00e1s Francisco Prieto prize from the Real Casa de la Moneda, in 2010 the MAV Women in the Visual Arts prize, in 2013 Fundaci\u00f3n Arte y Mecenazgo prize and in 2014 the Jos\u00e9 Gonz\u00e1lez de la Pe\u00f1a, Bar\u00f3n de Forna, prize awarded by the Real Academia de San Fernando.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She belongs to the generation of artists who shook up the sculpture scene in the seventies and eighties through approaches that prioritised literalness and the work process, placing her close to the post-minimal current.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

 Right from the start of her career she has been interested in the physical features of the materials she uses, as well as the sciences revolving around them, metallurgy, hydraulics or mining, the effect these things have on landscape and history and mark they have made on language. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the second half of the eighties her research centred on language and the way it encodes reality. In the early nineties, she alternated installations for specific venues (Arenas gir\u00f3vagas, Nudos, Ellas, A Farewell to Isaac Newton, etc.) with objectual pieces (glasses, shoes, knots, languages, hoods and so on). <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 1994 she had her first photographic exhibition \u2013 \u201cPeque\u00f1o teatro de derivas\u201d. In the second half of the seventies the stage sense of her works was accentuated and sand, as a symbol of collapse and loss, became one of her favourite materials. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

From \u201cLa madre se agita\u201d (Valencia, 1997) she incorporated sound into some of her installations (\u201cVoces\u201d, \u201cTu y yo II\u201d, \u201cLa lengua de los p\u00e1jaros\u201d, Palacio de Cristal del Retiro, Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sof\u00eda, 2002) and made a series of videos: \u201cViajes de arena\u201d, \u201cEl Casting\u201d, \u201cLa postal\u201d, \u201cBlind Spot\u201d, \u201cNo es m\u00e1s que un peque\u00f1o agujero en mi pecho\u201d, \u201cWater Meditation\u201d, \u201cA veces, despu\u00e9s de la lluvia\u201d, \u201cMil veces, sin importarle el tiempo\u2026\u201d, and \u201cEntre manos\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the nineties she explored issues related to feminine subjectivity and reflection about the status of the image in the digital age.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From 2005 she considered the rivers of the Iberian peninsula and in 2009 she presented her digital sculptures at La Casa Encendida. In 2016 she created \u201cLa canci\u00f3n de la tierra\u201d at Tabacalera Madrid and\u201cCut Through the Fog\u201d at C.G.A.C. Santiago de Compostela.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Highlights among her most recent projects include \u201cBinomio, di\u00e1logo entre arte y ciencia\u201d, together with Margarita Salas (CNIO, 2018), the installation \u201cFonts vives\u201d in the church\/museum of Pollen\u00e7a (July 2019) and the exhibition \u201cEl reverso de los monumentos y la agon\u00eda de las lenguas\u201d (Museo Patio Herreriano & Museo Nacional de Escultura, Valladolid 2020)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
