Emeritus professor of Philosophy and member of the Academia dei Lincei, he is one of the leading figures in European philosophical and political debate. He has devoted numerous essays to the idea of Europe, among them\u00a0<em>Geofilosofia dell\u2019Europa<\/em>,\u00a0<em>L\u2019arcipelago<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0<em>Europa o la filosof\u00eda<\/em>. His theoretical work is concentrated in three volumes:\u00a0<em>Dell\u2019inizio<\/em>\u00a0(1990),\u00a0<em>Della cosa ultima<\/em>\u00a0(2004) and\u00a0<em>Labirinto filosofico<\/em>, (2014). Many of his essays have been translated into different languages, including\u00a0<em>The Necessary Angel<\/em>,\u00a0<em>Posthumous People<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0<em>Icons<\/em>.
