Still Europe?

Massimo Cacciari, one of the philosophical greats, will talk to another maestro, Francisco Jarauta, to analyse the difficulty of the current moment. Once more, just when Europe could imagine its political unity and so act as a mediator in the international geopolitical context, it is once again questioned by the phantoms and puzzles that have placed it in doubt historically: its territorial limits, war or peace, law or conflict. The Russian invasion of Ukraine precipitated and exposed the seriousness of a fragile balance that has latently emerged in recent decades. In an increasingly complex international situation subject to new hegemonies, it is hard for Europe to look to a future in which it can realise its political and moral ideals. The questions are growing and the horizon is filling up with uncertainties which it is up to us as “héritiers sans testament”, as Paul Valéry wrote, to interpret them.
