An artist born in Lodosa in 1988, Amaia lives and works in Bilbao and Cluj-Napoca. She is currently completing a PhD in contemporary art at the University of the Basque Country. Her art focuses on expanded photography, highlighting the symbolic of the landscape.
She has received grants and prizes from organisations such as the Guggenheim Museum, INJUVE Spanish Ministry of Culture, Eremuak-Basque Government, C arte C, Centro Huarte and the Government of Navarre’s Department of Culture, and BilbaoArte Fundazioa.
She has carried out site-specific projects and stays as artist in residence in Western Sahara, Iceland, Austria, Romania and Argentina, among other places. She has held solo exhibitions such as The Earth may want to be like it was before existingin La Ciudadela in Pamplona, Das Paradies in Bilbao’s Galería La Taller, Future Fossils in Museo Arqueológico in Bilbao and Centro Cultural San Martín in Buenos Aires, and Mugak (Boundaries) in BilbaoArte Fundazioa.
Her work has been included in group exhibitions at venues such as Centro Huarte de Arte Contemporáneo, Sala Rekalde (Bilbao), Centro Cultural Montehermoso (Vitoria-Gasteiz), Museo San Telmo (Donostia), Fabra i Coats Centre d’Art Contemporani (Barcelona), Centrul de Interes (Cluj-Napoca), Galería Rafael Pérez Hernando (Madrid) and Gaep Gallery (Bucharest).
