How Much World Do We Have Left?

This is a question asked by much of the population, who need to know the state of our natural reserves. The question then begs others that are no less legitimate and timely: Can they be preserved? How far is it actually being exhausted? What strategies seem viable to protect its resources? How far do science and technology perform the function of safeguarding this nature we are all concerned about? Economic depredations, militaristic expansion plus the natural consequences of climate change call for a new adaptation to the unpredictable. But what place will humanity have in this decline? Is it possible to build a desirable world and future?
