Imperialism on the March (Again)

An old dream of the great powers, it’s back with a vengeance today. Imperialist expansion, whatever the tendency of the doctrine behind it, though it is always linked to the ideology of an extreme capitalism, violates the sovereignty and dignity of countries that are subjected by force, whether armed or through economic muscle. This totalitarian zeal, with all its tragic precedents, fosters a sense of identity, reductionist by its very nature, that is both national and individual. Given that its influence encourages individualism, the possibility of social cohesion becomes ever more difficult. The presence at the Encuentros of authoritative voices to analyse this pressing situation will help to shed light on the reality of this serious situation and, in the best-case scenario, to discern possible responses.
