Xabier Erkizia
Musician, sound artist and producer. Over the last 30 years he has presented large numbers of musical compositions and installations, including more than 90 soundtracks for films, dance and theatre. He also works in the media on creative radio.
He has curated projects including ERTZ Festival of Other Musics, which he co-directed from 1999 to 2017, and the AUDIOLAB sound laboratory at Arteleku (2002-2014), in which he was the coordinator. He also works in the educational sphere, collaborating with universities and, on a regular basis, the Elías Querejeta film school. In 2021 he premiered his first feature film, entitled O GEMER (Atekaleun Films).
OBSERVING WITH HEARING: How to tell stories through sound
In this workshop we’ll learn to make films with sounds and dress up images with sounds. In general, we’ve learnt to tell stories with words and pictures, though comics, books, television and cinema. However, we’ve got used to using our hearing mainly to listen to music, using completely different rules. But fortunately we don’t just listen to music. Sounds, noises, distances, echoes, trembling, dangers and even emotions are all in there. And without them we cannot explain our world.
