François Jullien

Philosopher and sinologist.

Born in Embun (Hautes-Alpes, France), he studied at the École Normale Supérieure, going on to become a professor at Paris Diderot University. He is one of the leading figures in contemporary French philosophy. François Jullien’s work explores the intersection between sinology and general philosophy. Basing himself on study of the thought of ancient China, neoconfucianism and the literary and aesthetic concepts of classical China, he questions the history and categories of European reason to establish a counterpoint between the two cultures. He has written some forty works that have been translated in twenty-eight countries. In Dé-coïncidence. D’où viennent l’art et l’existence?, published in 2017, he introduces the concept of de-coincidence, leading in 2020 to the setting up of the Association Décoïncidences, in which he is now active.
