J. A. González Sainz (b. Soria, 1956) has lived for more than thirty years in Italy (in Padua, Venice and Trieste). His latest book is La vida pequeña. El arte de la fuga (2021, sixth edition in 2022). Highlights of his work before this include El viento en las hojas (2014) and the novels Ojos que no ven (2010), Volver al mundo (2003) and Un mundo exasperado (1995), with which he won the 13th Herralde novel award. He has also won the 25th Castilla y León award for letters (2006) and the 7th Observatorio d’Achtal literary prize (2015). His short stories also include those contained in the book Los encuentros(1989). He has translated several Italian writers and philosophers, including Guido Ceronetti and Emanuele Severino, as well as much of the work of Claudio Magris. In 1989 he founded the independent arts review Archipiélago, which he edited until 2009. He lectured at the university of Venice between 1982 and 2015, and is a founder and teacher at the Centro Internacional Antonio Machado de Soria (CIAM), which teaches Spanish language and culture and in particular includes an International School of Humanities.
