Leire Urbeltz

An artist born in Pamplona in 1985, Leire is currently completing a PhD in contemporary art at the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU). She studied Creative Illustration and Visual Communication Techniques at Escola Eina, attached to the Autonomous University of Barcelona, and obtained a master’s degree in Illustrated Children’s Album at Casa del Lector in Matadero-Madrid. 

She has been artist in residence at the Seoul Museum of Art, CC El Paso del Norte in Ciudad Juárez, the Manga Art Studio in Beijing and at Fundación Bilbaoarte. She won first prize in the Encuentros de Arte Joven de Navarra and has benefited from the Government of Navarre’s Creation Grants and the Fundación BBVA’s Leonardo Scholarship for researchers and cultural creators.

 She has held solo exhibitions in El Paso (Texas, USA), Bilbao, Vitoria and Pamplona, and has taken part in group exhibitions in Seoul, Barcelona, Madrid, Bilbao, Cáceres, Bradford and Beijing. She has also been a member of the Department of Artistic Education at Centro Huarte. She currently combines her artistic research with her work as illustrator, muralist, associate professor at the Public University of Navarre and coordinator of Pamplona City Council’s En Mudanza (Moving) programme.
