Gandeia presents an innovative, distinctive musical project, born in 2019. Its most remarkable feature is the band itself: a trio made up of piano, violin and txistu pipe and drum, probably the only music group of this kind. But the musical background of each of the musicians is also unusual and varied: Yorrick Troman, currently Leader of the Orquesta Sinfónica de Navarra, Amaia Cordoba, an extremely highly qualified pianist and musicologist and secondary school teacher, and Ion Irazoki, member of the San Sebastián municipal txistu pipe band. Three very different instruments and backgrounds, but a shared interest in the Basque musical repertoire. In GANDEIA’s career, dance has become increasingly important thanks to the work of the dancers Oihana Santxotena and Nahikari Rojo.
