José Luis Guerin

One of the most eminent film makers in international auteur cinema. His work, poetic and thoughtful in nature and in a range of formats, includes feature-length films and shorts as well as visual installations in different museums around the world. His film work includes both fiction and documentaries, blurring the frontiers that exist between these genres.

His work has been featured at film festivals like Venice (Official Section), Cannes (Un Certain Regard, Directors’ Fortnight), Berlin (Forum), San Sebastián (Official Competition), several times in Locarno, Rotterdam, Tokyo and others.

He is perhaps one of the most popular Spanish film makers with both critics and audiences at international festivals. Retrospectives have been devoted to him at major arts centres like the Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris and the Harvard Film Institute. He has won numerous international awards, as well as the Spanish national film prize in 2001.
