Never before now have the promises of the world of science and technology been so disorienting. We see how the profound questions about life, based on wonder and the hope of a fortunate, even unexpected discovery, are being pushed aside for those that sustain neoliberal fantasies and profits. Everything points to a kind of dystopian utopia, energy stress and mechanisation. However, how much world we have left will depend on the questions we ask ourselves. Sonia Contera, professor of physics at Oxford University, knows and advocates a science with meaning, innovative and without so much fiction.
