Victoria Szpunberg

Dramatist, director and teacher of playwriting. In 2000 she was invited to take part in the Royal Court Theatre’s international residency programme with her first play. Since then, her work has been premiered at different festivals and theatres in Spain and elsewhere, as well as being translated into more than ten languages. In 2013 she won the Max prize for Catalan playwriting. In 2019 she was resident author at the Sala Beckett with her play Amor Mundi (Festival Grec) and won the Laboratorio SGAE grant to write the play Tu hija. In 2022 she premiered the opera libretto La gata perduda, (Gran Teatro del Liceo, winner of the Serra d’Or prize, Max prize and Teatre Barcelona prize, among others) and El peso de un cuerpo (TNC and CDN). In 2023 she premiered Mal de coraçon (Cia Solitària, TNC) and in 2024 L’imperatiu categòric (Teatre Lliure 2024-2025), winner of the Ciutat de Barcelona and Teatre Barcelona prizes, critics’ award for best text and prize for dramatic literature, among others. In 2025 she premiered Vulcano (CDN) and La tercera fuga (Sala Gran del TNC), winning the Teatre de Barcelona prize for best director. Over the years she has also worked with different choreographers, and written radio pieces and sound installations.
