Xabier Erkizia
Musician, sound artist and producer. Over the last 30 years he has presented large numbers of musical compositions and installations, including more than 90 soundtracks for films, dance and theatre. He also works in the media on creative radio.
He has curated projects including ERTZ Festival of Other Musics, which he co-directed from 1999 to 2017, and the AUDIOLAB sound laboratory at Arteleku (2002-2014), in which he was the coordinator. He also works in the educational sphere, collaborating with universities and, on a regular basis, the Elías Querejeta film school. In 2021 he premiered his first feature film, entitled O GEMER (Atekaleun Films).
PROJECTING ONTO OUR EARS
What do we hear while we “watch” a film? What is projected into our open ears as the pictures go past? It is not a question of denouncing, but of becoming aware of what is announced through the many speakers in cinema venues. But to do this, perhaps we need to think about it first without the screen, to listen before seeing, to project from what we hear. This workshop is part of the Encuentros pathway “The Voices We Were”.
