What world do we help to generate when we speak? For philosopher and philologist Barbara Cassin, language is perfomative, which means words create reality and mediate our relations. In conversation with journalist Andrea Aguilar, this eminent academic, influenced by Arendt, will discuss how we construct ourselves through language, and the use dictators make of words in their authoritarian, imperialist and manipulative efforts. Finally, Cassin will explain the mechanisms that sure the capacity for discernment by the human being in the face of the totalitarian trap.
