In the words of political scientist Natascha Strobl, the rise of radicalised conservatism threatens the foundations of democracy. According to her analysis, the extreme right uses resentment to mobilise broad sectors of society who feel abandoned by globalised élites, and it does this by fostering xenophobia in narratives that seek to exercise control. For Strobl, the strategies of this policy respond to the superimposed crises of our time, striving to impose authoritarian positions. Xavier Mas de Xaxàs, diplomatic correspondent of La Vanguardia, will be there to explore the nuances of the author’s analysis. Both of them will discuss today’s political challenges and possible solutions to overcome these.
