Sauvage sentimental (Sentimental Savage)
Sauvage sentimental, by Isabelle Duthoit, is a voice, two hands, a body from which comes a song filled with animality, archaism, a powerful brutal energy, but at the same time smooth and elegant. This is a language that comes before language. A glosolalia, a speaking in tongues.
Like an anachronistic priestess, Isabelle rebels, writhes, convulses, cries out, murmurs, whispers, and clamours with total freedom, in a hoarse, guttural song, as cavernous as it is light and ethereal. We are assaulted with the certainty that these emotions are possible, palpable and, above all, essential. And this is comforting. Isabelle seeks, feels, sings and, revealing voice and body, offers a savage search for a universal truth entombed deep, deep down.
