There is no agreement over what made us human. Self-awareness? Recognition that we face death? The appearance of the first words? The invention of imagination? Certainly, sharing doubts, trying to understand and to know made us human. However, the production of ignorance has become big business. Robert N. Proctor, professor of the History of Science at Stanford, coined the term “agnotology” to define the phenomenon and consider how powerful organisations use science and technology as tools for domination. Proctor will be explaining, at the Encuentros, why he believes we live in a golden age of ignorance.
