Hito Steyerl

Visual artist, film-maker and essayist. He has spent years devoted to the field of the media and analysis of the mass circulation of images. Holder of a doctorate from the University of Vienna and lecturer in Art and New media at the University of Berlin, his essays in both written and audiovisual form focus on topics like feminism, political violence and digital technologies, which he approaches through the use of irony and the appropriation of other people’s visual and textual materials. As an artist and documentary make, he has taken part in biennials around the world, and his work is part of the leading contemporary art collections and museums. His essays include Los condenados de la pantalla (2014), Arte Duty Free (2018) and Medios calientes. Las imágenes en la era del calor (2025), published by Caja Negra.
