Matteo Cesari

Artist, performer and researcher with a passion for contemporary music and a well-known soloist on the international scene, born in Bologna, Italy, in 1985. He gained his doctorate in Paris with the highest distinctions in the field of performance, practice and research with a thesis focusing on the conception of time in the flute works L’orologio di Bergson by Salvatore Sciarrino and Carceri d’Invenzione IIb by Brian Ferneyhough. He has won the Kranichsteiner Musikpreis de Darmstadt, among many other distinctions and awards in different competitions. His passion for contemporary music has led him to work with many leading artists on today’s scene, including Salvatore Sciarrino, Brian Ferneyhough, Alberto Posadas, Helmut Lachenmann, Pierluigi Billone, Barbara Hannigan, Carolin Widmann and Maurizio Pollini. He has played at leading venues and festivals all over the world, including the Philharmonie de Paris, the Köln Philharmonie, the Pierre Boulez Saal in Berlin, the Louis Vuitton foundation, the Wien Modern festival, the Luxembourg Philharmonie, Toppan Hall in Tokyo and the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires. He recently released the complete works of Salvatore Sciarrino for flute on the prestigious Kairos label.
