Nimfa Bisbe

A graduate in History of Art from the University of Barcelona with a master’s degree in Art History, Curatorial Track, from the University of Delaware, USA, she has been director of the Contemporary Art Collection of the “la Caixa” foundation since 2002. She joined the institution in 1990 as curator of this this collection.

She has played a key part in the development, research and dissemination of the collection, heading the acquisitions committee and curating many exhibitions both in Spain and abroad. Her most recent exhibitions include Horizonte y límite. Visiones del paisaje —at CaixaForum Madrid and Barcelona—, ¡Mírame! Retratos y otras ficciones en la Colección —an itinerant exhibition at different CaixaForum sites and museums— and La pintura. Un reto permanente —at CaixaForum Madrid and Barcelona— and L’image revenante, which she co-curated at the Rath Museum in Geneva. Her curating career has also included projects devoted to artists such as Omer Fast, Tony Oursler, Bestué/Vives, Pierre Huyghe and Nicolas Paris.  She also devised the concept for En el estudio, a series of videos of conversations between artists for the CaixaForum+ platform

Alongside this, she has taken part in conferences and symposia, given courses in art collecting and sat on juries to award grants in the art world.  She is a member of ICOM (International Council of Museums), the governing board of IACCA (International Association of Corporate Collections of Contemporary Art) and the board of CIMAM (International Committee for Museums and Collection of Modern Art).
