Visual artist.
Trained at Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design in London, with a master’s degree in Fine Arts from the California College of Arts in San Francisco, she has earned accolades and scholarships including the Fullbright. Her pieces, videos and installations are akin to storytelling. Patricia Esquivias deconstructs dominant narratives and offers alternative ways to reconstruct them and tell the lost stories. Taking as her starting point events, characters, cultural objects or phenomena of popular culture, she structures her narratives to question the past, retracing the way in which certain interpretations have displaced others. Many of her pieces talk about history and memory. Esquivias has exhibited her work in Los Angeles, Barcelona (MACBA), Madrid (Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía), Marrakesh, New York and other cities around the world.
