Las novias del sur
Elena López Riera. 2024. Spain. 37 min.
Starting out from a photograph of her mother on her wedding day, Elena López Riera wonders what that smiling young girl must be feeling. This reflection leads on to a small group of older women talking frankly about their marriage, their first experiences and their intimate relationship with sexuality.
Through these universal moments in life, the director places in question her own story, which breaks with the chain of mother-daughter relations, and offers a fresh, unfiltered dialogue in which women share their most intimate experiences in relation to desire in front of the camera.
Correspondencia
Carla Simón, Dominga Sotomayor. 2020. Spain, Chile. 19 min.
Carla Simón, winner of the Goya for Best New Director for Verano 1993, and Dominga Sotomayor, look back on their life through their shared correspondence in order to make sense of the present. The two of them reflect on memory, motherhood, family and film. In the final letter, the urgency of the present situation in Chile jumps onto the screen: “First it was a state of emergency, now it’s revolution. It’s strange to be far away, and even stranger to be talking about film.” In “Correspondencia” the most intimate memories of the past are mixed together with concerns committed to the present.
