Carla Simón

Carla Simón Pipó (Barcelona, 1986) is one of the most highly-acclaimed directors and screenwriters in Spanish cinema today, famous for a trilogy of films of an intimate, autobiographical nature that explore family memory and loss. Trained in Barcelona, California and the London Film School, she leapt to international fame with her debut film, Verano 1993 (2017) consolidating a lasting reputation with the Golden Bear at the Berlinale for Alcarràs (2022), a hit that won the Spanish national film award, following it up with the premiere of Romería (2025) at the Cannes festival, so completing the trilogy devoted to her family roots.
