Elena López Riera

Elena López Riera (Orihuela, 1982) is a film director, doctor of Audiovisual Communication and lecturer. After setting up the audiovisual collective “Lacasinegra” in 2009, she cemented her international standing in art film with shorts like Pueblo (2015), Las vísceras (2016) and Los que desean (2018), the latter winning the prestigious Pardino de Oro at the Locarno festival. In 2022 her acclaimed first feature-length film, El Agua, premiered at the Cannes festival, and in 2024 she reaffirmed her importance on the film scene with the documentary short Las novias del sur, which picked up a nomination for the Goya awards. She currently combines her creative and research work between Geneva and Paris, teaching at HEAD in Geneva and at the prestigious Escuela Elías Querejeta Zine Eskola in San Sebastián.
