Philosopher and essayist. He is a professor of Political Philosophy, Ikerbasque researcher at the University of the Basque Country, director of the Instituto de Gobernanza Democrática in San Sebastián and a professor at the European University Institute in Florence, where he holds the chair in Artificial Intelligence & Democracy. He has been guest lecturer at various European and American universities, including the Sorbonne, the London School of Economics, the University of Georgetown and the Max Planck Institut in Heidelberg. His most recent books include Una teoría de la democracia compleja, Una teoría crítica de la Inteligencia Artificial y El futuro de la democracia. Among other accolades, he has won the Euskadi and National Essay prizes, as well as the Príncipe de Viana culture award and the Ramón Menéndez Pidal national research prize in the field of humanities, in 2022. In 2025, he was invested Chevalier des Palmes Académiques by the French government.
