Helena Buffery is a lecturer, translator and researcher in the Department of Spanish, Portuguese and Latin American Studies at University College Cork. Her specialist areas include cultural translation, theatre and the performing arts, and she has carried out several projects focused on aspects contemporary cultural output. Highlights among her publications include: Shakespeare in Catalan: Translating Imperialism (2007, 2010); Stages of Exile: Spanish Republican Exile and Performance Cultures (2011), Barcelona: Visual Culture, Space and Power (with Carlota Caulfield, 2012); Contaminated and Dislocated Bodies in Catalan Visual and Performance Cultures (with Eva Bru, 2019); Here and Beyond: Narratives of Travel and Mobility in Contemporary Iberian Culture (with Martín Veiga, Sergi Mainer and David Miranda-Barreiro, 2022). She is currently part of the team on the HISTOFOR project, in which she studies the impact of the forensic turn in contemporary Spanish theatre. She has translated various plays from Catalan into English, including The Weight of a Body and The Categorical Imperative by Victoria Szpunberg.
